The Ribbon Runner
Caroline Flaharty
Giclée Print on Archival paper
8” x 12”
2023
This image was taken mere minutes before sunset in San Juan, Puerto Rico. It’s a street photographer’s dream to find themselves upon an open field of warm toned grasses and a child gleefully running about, a dynamic yellow ribbon as a companion. Caroline Flaharty tabs photography as a deeply personal and spiritual practice - one way of honoring the magic that is woven into the mundane fabrics of our everyday lives. She seeks to combat the fast-paced world and time's relentless march forward by documenting fleeting details, such that they do not go unnoticed. She gravitates towards the raw, emotional, and narrative aspects of a moment, which she is often compelled to express through use of color, light, and perspective. Her approach to street photography on Canon, Pentax, and iPhone is uniquely cinematic. She has spent meaningful years in Florida, Maine, Northern Spain, and currently resides in New York City, where she studies at the International Center of Photography among the other professional and personal pursuits that fill her days.
