Crimson Cowboy
Sophie Lubrano
Oil and acrylic on canvas
30” x 40”
2024
Crimson Cowboy is a part of Sophia Lubrano’s Cowboy and Cowgirl series. This work, like its contemporaries, is intentionally unfinished — the cowboy’s head, face, and hat is rendered in proficient detail while the upper torso is outlined in clean, dynamic strokes. The artist’s deliberate restraint towards figuration communicates a unique celebration of the painterly process. Lubrano’s investigation of rustic themes is reminiscent of the artist’s upbringing in rural New Hampshire and it’s soundtrack.
